Governor-General announced as patron of Lions Australia
- Lions Australia welcomes Governor-General His Excellency the Honourable General David Hurley and his wife Linda Hurley as patrons
- Since the first club was formed in Australia 70 years ago Lions has grown dramatically in size and impact with over 1200 Lions Clubs now in Australia
- In addition to the thousands of community service and support projects each year, Lions support a range of other major research projects and support programs including medical research, environment work and emergency disaster relief
25th September 2019: Australia’s largest service organisation Lions Australia is very pleased to welcome His Excellency General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd) and Her Excellency Mrs Linda Hurley as its new patrons.
“I am delighted to be a patron of Lions,” says the Governor-General of Australia.
“Every day, Lions across Australia go above and beyond to help people in need and make our community a better place to live. From medical research, environmental work, emergency and disaster relief, helping the deaf and blind and supporting our youth, the work of Lions makes such a difference.”
“Linda and I look forward to working with this wonderful organisation and its many volunteers across Australia,” adds the Governor-General.
Since the first club was formed in Australia 70 years ago Lions has grown dramatically in size and impact with over 1200 Lions Clubs now in Australia including Leo Clubs for young Australians and a range of specialty clubs tailored for specific needs, ethnicities and interests.
“It’s an absolute pleasure to welcome the Governor-General and his wife Mrs Linda Hurley as patrons of Lions Australia. It’s an exciting time for our organisation. We have some incredible projects happening right across the country lead by thousands of passionate volunteers. The Governor-General and Mrs Hurley are wonderful leaders in the community and we are very grateful for their support, ” says Lions Australia Chairperson Kim Forrest.
Lions across Australia are men, women and young people on a mission to help others and give back to the community.
From environmental work and helping communities get back on their feet after a natural disaster to assisting the deaf and blind, supporting our youth and a range of ground-breaking medical research projects Lions Australia is an organisation making a big impact.
Lions foundations include the Australian Lions Foundation, Australian Lions Childhood Cancer Research Foundation, Australian Lions Children’s Mobility Foundation, Lions Eye Health Program, Australian Lions Hearing Dogs, Australian Lions Drug Awareness Foundation. Lions also conduct public awareness work on critical health issues such as blindness prevention, skin cancer and diabetes.
100 per cent of funds donated to Lions go towards funding Lions projects.
